Building Something That Shines

Posted by Radstock Ministries on

We felt the Lord calling us to build something that shines, so the whole city can say, 'those are the Christians'. As Jesus said, let them see good deeds and praise our Father in heaven. This, God has made a reality."

That city is Tetovo, the largest Albanian city in North Macedonia, where ancient mosaics and modern glass structures stand side by side.

The building - now shining for 5 years - is 'Shift Centre', led by Gregor and Kela whom the Lord called to Tetovo, and to that vision.

This light shines where there are no other Albanian Christians, and they serve an 70% Albanian-Muslim population with a reputation for resisting change.

But "God has given us so much grace with the community," says Gregor. "One neighbour said 'I thought within 3 days all your windows would be broken and no-one will come, but I see all these people coming, bringing their children, and they love it!".

What people love includes music performances and lessons, youth socials, English conversation and IT classes, and philosophy events. Gregor, Kela and the team members from Albanian and American partner churches build friendships and share the gospel motivation for all they do.

"We use what we have and serve people with much love and the joy of the Lord," Gregor explains. "People see we have hope and think "we need that!" And with 5 invitations to speak on 3 national TV stations, that reputation is not just growing locally.

Five years marks both progress and discouragements. "In terms of having disciples, it's going slowly. And we have difficulties in creating a long-term team," acknowledges Gregor. "But in terms of having a witness to the good news of Jesus - everybody knows we are the Christians."
