Church Planting in Sukth

Posted on

Besi and Miriam Gorrea live with their 3 children in Sukth, Albania, where God is using them to establish a church and so bless this little village. Read on for some highlights from their latest update, and please do keep them in your prayers!

Our break in the UK was a great time for us to recuperate. We believe our future is here in Albania and trust that God will use us here for many years to come. So we were reminded that we must be wise in our decisions, so that our family life can withstand and thrive here.

Besi's gifting and calling is within the church: leading, teaching and nourishing it, planting new churches and making new disciples of Jesus. I have always had a passion for children's work, and am particularly passionate about influencing the schooling here. In the last few years the two local schools have opened their doors to me to run activities to enrich the educational journey of the young children here in Sukth.

We were really encouraged by our youth's progress while we were away; some of the young men had preached for the first time while we were in the UK, and we have heard some good comments from other church members on how well they did! It's exciting to have such a young church, and we look forward to seeing more of them take on more responsibility in the future.

The educational option we have chosen for the children (an International school in Durres) comes at great cost financially, and we don't currently have the funds to make this happen. However, we feel strongly that if we are right in thinking this to be the best option for us as a family, and also what God wants for us, then He will provide and make a way for this to be possible. Please pray for us in this time of decision making, that we will keep our ears open to where God is leading us.

Please do pray for us and the work here in Sukth! Particularly, please pray:

  • for Besi in his leadership - for wisdom and energy as he seeks to disciple the next generation of leaders,
  • for our church - for individuals to grow and be challenged in their faith, and for more of the local people to come to know Christ as their personal Saviour,
  • for continued provision for us as a family.

If you would like to contribute to our life and ministry here, please contact Jo Bird at Stopsley Baptist Church who can give you details of how to support us on a monthly basis.

With love from the Gorreas
