Urban Life sees new life!

Radstock member church Urban Life, in multi-cultural inner city Derby UK ,reports on the development of a Spanish-speaking ministry and life transformation.  by Anthony Adams

Last month it was our privilege as a church community, to baptise two of our friends from Latin America who have come to live in the UK, and who have come to know Jesus. They have been here for a long time and are still in the process of applying for asylum.

As they talk about their journey, they reflect on how, though their situation is uncertain, and at times painful being so far from home, God had brought them to a place where they had the time, opportunity and humility to hear the good news about Jesus Christ.

Even this morning as I spent time with them reading and praying, they were clear how they must follow Jesus through everything and finding comfort in his unstoppable love.  This is their perspective even as they received news that last week a number of family members back in their home country sadly lost their lives in a tragedy. Yet this morning as we read from Romans 8, they were clinging on to the truth of Romans 8:38.

‘And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow - not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.’

‘These are very good words’ they said, with real feeling.

A few months ago we started a new community ‘Vida Urbana’ to serve these friends and others in our city who speak Spanish. A good crowd has been gathering for a monthly service, and some social events, and some who are searching have been having really good conversations with the team. Pray for us. And if you know someone who speaks Spanish, maybe they might like to come and work with us!
