Many of you know our family had a very difficult start to the year, and I had some time off. Thank you for your prayers for us - the love and sense of family in Radstock is a blessing.
Those at October's Round Table in North Macedonia heard me speak from Psalm 90, and the prayer that God would teach us to 'number our days'. Our family's struggles have been one reason for me to think about this again. Another is that I am approaching 25 years in full-time Christian ministry. With more days behind than ahead, I want to use my time for what really matters.
Rather than a 'mid-life crisis', I think reflections like these are really the essence of the prayer 'teach us to number our days'. Learning to consider what we do with our days - and therefore our lives - leads to a heart of wisdom.
For many of us, using our lives for God's mission to the world will be a priority. Here are a few possible responses:
- Commit to pray regularly for one Radstock project, team or worker; prayer has more impact than we know
- Encourage your church / leaders to take a 'next step' in global mission
- Join a trip to learn from, and serve, churches and workers in another culture
- Give a gift to help others serve beyond their own borders
- Respond to a call for medium/long-term members of church planting teams
- Leave a gift to Radstock in your will
I recently added Radstock as a beneficiary in my will.
We've heard that a faithful supporter in the UK did the same, and it will be a privilege to invest her gift in the cause of global mission which clearly mattered so much to her.
While she now enjoys seeing Jesus face to face, her impact in this world continues.
So often we grow in wisdom together: maybe explore with others in your church wise ways to spend and invest what you have. And read on for some ideas from around our network.
Lord, teach us to number our days,
So that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
